IRCC has introduced a new feature that allows both current and prospective applicants to see their actual place in the queue and updated processing times for immigration and citizenship applications.
Until now, applicants could only view average processing times based on program type — a broad estimate that didn’t reflect when their specific application was submitted. This update marks a major step toward greater transparency in Canada’s immigration system.
Meanwhile, the data that first surfaced in Immigration Binder 2025 has now been officially released, confirming the exceptionally long wait times for several programs, particularly Humanitarian & Compassionate (H&C) and the Start-Up Visa program.
Express Entry remains the fastest route to PR. Standard Express Entry and PNP-linked streams continue to offer the shortest processing times.
Entrepreneurs face long waits. Start-Up Visa applicants may wait over a decade. Note that PNP-entrepreneur streams, while faster, still take several years. Always plan an alternative PR pathway.
Be cautious of fraudulent H&C offers. H&C applications are designed only for those facing genuine hardship with no other options — and they do not automatically stop removal orders.
Refugee claims are not a PR shortcut. Refugee protection applies strictly to those at real risk of persecution.
IRCC’s new transparency tool is a welcome development — empowering applicants with clearer expectations and helping professionals guide clients more accurately. However, the numbers also underscore the growing need for realistic planning, credible advice, and well-informed immigration strategies.
